A recent study1 published in the International Journal of Basic & Clinical Pharmacology found that a proprietary multi-herb extract formula called KaraHeart (from Karallief Inc., based in Cambridge, MA), supports healthy cholesterol levels. The formula consists of Ayurvedic herbs such as Commiphora mukul, Allium sativum, Camellia sinensis, Trigonella foenum-graecum, Zingiber officinale, and Cinnamomum verum that have been traditionally used to manage hyperlipidemia. In the randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, 100 subjects were randomized to receive either two 500 mg per day of the extract or placebo for 120 days. Subjects were screened at baseline, 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, and 120 days for lipid profile parameters such as total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), and Triglycerides.
Results showed that supplementation significantly reductions of total cholesterol at 30 and 60 days, compared to baseline, and 90 and 120 days compared to placebo. After 120 days, the group taking KaraHeart experienced twice the reduction of total cholesterol compared to placebo. Supplementation with the extract also saw significant increases in HDL (good) cholesterol at 120 days, while the placebo group saw a statistically significant decrease in HDL. After 120 days, supplementation with KaraHeart also had a tendency toward reduction in LDL (bad) cholesterol compared to placebo. The KaraHeart group also saw significant reductions in VLDL levels from day 30 to day 120, compared to placebo, as well as statistically significant reductions in triglycerides at all points, compared to baseline.
“We’re very excited about these clinical study findings, since a healthy heart is important for overall wellness and management of healthy cholesterol levels is very critical,” said Krishna Rajendran, CEO of Karallief, in a press release. “By showing how KaraHeart can have a measurable impact in managing healthy cholesterol and triglyceride levels, we are providing yet another clinically tested herbal supplement to help foster healthy lives for individuals. This joins our latest products – Easy Climb™ for joint health and KaraLiv™ for liver health – and is another crucial part of Karallief’s overall focus on holistic wellness.”
