The Torah charges everyone to demonstrate sensitivity toward foreigners, orphans, widows, and the poor, and outlines proper behavior toward these vulnerable members of society.
20 You shall not mistreat or deceive a stranger, and you shall not oppress him. For you too were strangers, in the land of Egypt. 21 You shall not afflict any widow or orphan. 22 If you afflict him, then when he cries out to Me, I will hear his cry. 23 Then My wrath will be enflamed, and I will kill you with the sword; and your own wives will be widows, and your own children orphans.
