Occasionally I write something about languages which is my hobby and language is typical connected to humans even if a parrot does the best he can….
As many of you may know in Bavel [Babylon] all the languages were “mixed up” by the Creator to stop human beings building the famous Tower.
In Hebrew most words consists of 3 letters [the root] and turning letters around is a well known allowed phenomena whereby there is always some connection with the “new word” where the letters were turned around.
Today I want to show you a remarkable connection between a Hebrew and Aramaic word ….unbelievable
In parashat Be-Chukotai 26:5 the word betach [lebetach] is translated in Aramaic by Onkelos in: le-rachtza
וִישַׁבְתֶּם לָבֶטַח בְּאַרְצְכֶם. and dwell in your land safely. lerachrzan-labetach
Betach in Hebrew= certain, safe! You will dwell safely! Rachtzan [Aramaic] root letter: r–ch–tz and Hebrew speakers will recognize the word Retzach –murder in these 3 letters
If you turn Betach around you get Tevach which is slaughter[the opposite of safe] which is the same meaning as the Aramaic word [murder]
Rechatz in Hebrew also means washing In Deuteronomium 21:6 we read:
6 And all the elders of that city, who are nearest unto the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken in the valley.
ו וְכֹל, זִקְנֵי הָעִיר הַהִוא, הַקְּרֹבִים, אֶל-הֶחָלָל–יִרְחֲצוּ, אֶת-יְדֵיהֶם, עַל-הָעֶגְלָה, הָעֲרוּפָה בַנָּחַל.
Here we see the meaning of washing Rachatz.[connected with a murder that happened]
In French washing: Lavage and L and R are interchangeable letters….in this case:
lavage becomes ravage [= detructieve]
How remarkable is all this in my opinion and there are so many more examples but any of these posts takes me an hour or more to write, and it is only medicine for the “soul” maybe, thus I will limit myself.
If any of the readers have some other examples please write me and I may post it.
