Two young Australians, John Rendall and Anthony “Ace” Bourke, really did buy a lion cub from Harrods department store in London in 1969.
They named him Christian.

They raised him in:

their London apartment,

their furniture shop (called Sophistocat),

and even exercised him in church gardens.

But Christian grew — fast.
He became too large and too wild for city life, so they made the heartbreaking decision to send him to Kenya, where legendary conservationist George Adamson helped reintroduce him to the wild.
