New discovery: fisetin [see below]

I read/heard somewhere that Rav Aharon Yehuda Leib Shteinman-who passed away at the age of 104– seems to have eaten virtually every day CUCUMBER [I don’t remember the source]

Interesting that Ayurveda advises not to combine cucumber with tomatoes and in Italy one seems to adhere to this —I don’t know the reason

Cucumbers are VERY “cooling” and those suffering from cold in winter should consider leaving them out during that season

Fisetin has been shown to have several biological benefits including:

  • Reduction in inflammation. …
  • Protecting bone health.
  • Neuroprotection.
  • The ability to eliminate senescent cells.
  • It is thought that it may have anti-cancer properties.
  • It helps to make more glutathione, the most anti-inflammatory substance in your body.

Anti-cancer effects**: Studies have shown that fisetin may have anti-cancer effects. It has been found to inhibit the growth of colon cancer cells and induce apoptosis (cell death) in these cells. Fisetin has also been studied for its potential effects on prostate cancer.

Improved longevity: Fisetin has been identified as a senotherapeutic compound, meaning it can reduce the number of senescent cells in the body. Senescent cells are aged cells that can contribute to aging and age-related diseases. By reducing the percentage of senescent cells, fisetin may help extend healthspan and improve longevity.
