Of the many sins we confess in the prayers of Yom h-kIppiurim, is mentioned;
Ta-ienu [Hebrew] = we have strayed
Rav Kanievsky zt”l mentions the verse in psalm 119: 176
176 I went astray like a lost lamb; seek Your servant, for I did not forget Your commandments. |
The verse does not mention a lost child but rather a lost sheep and he then remarks that when a sheep is lost, it does not even know that it is lost.
It simple wanders around; if it finds another flock, it assumes that it belongs there.
This is greater degree of confusion than that of a lost child, who knows that he is lost

A beautiful explanation and I even learned some”biology ” from this as I never have been a shepherd!
