Compelling experimental evidence shows that fucoidan can also hinder the migration of cancer cells by inhibiting molecules called selectins.19,20 There are several types of selectins in the body, and they facilitate physical interaction and locomotion of various cell types. One problem with selectins, however, is that cancer cells can use these molecules to spread to other parts of the body via a process known as metastasis,20 which often has deadly consequences for cancer patients.

Lemon Essential Oil Offers Multimodal Benefits Against Cancer

A larger review of plant extracts and the various roles they play in preventing and treating disease revealed that essential oils, including that of the lemon, acts in multiple ways to target cancer. Lemon and other essential oils, a research team found, utilize multiple pathways and mechanisms to thwart cancer, including through cell cycle arrest, apoptosis (cell suicide), increased levels of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, and anti-metastasis and anti-angiogenic (stopping tumors from growing blood vessels) activities.

A mixture of lemon essential oil combined with eucalyptus, melaleuca, lemongrass, clove leaf, and thyme, in a 40 percent ethanol base, demonstrated anti-tumorigenic effects when administered to patients with metastatic tumorigenic ulcers. Cancer patients have also found relief from pain, anxiety, nausea, and vomiting by using lemon and other essential oils.

A novel role of sesamol in inhibiting NF-kappaB-mediated signaling in platelet activation.

One in vivo study has shown that topically applied bromelain inhibits mouse skin papillomas by promoting apoptosis. Other researchers have found that bromelain reduces metastasis and local tumor growth. In vitro studies have shown that bromelain inhibits cell growth in human gastric carcinoma Kato III cells and inhibits the adhesion and migration, but not the growth, of human glioblastoma primary cells. The authors conjecture that bromelain may be more effective in treating some types of cancer than others. Bromelain’s anticancer effects appear to be mediated through effects on cell survival regulators, and the authors write that these effects are “cell context-dependent.”

Patients with brain tumors who are treated with radiation often develop cerebral edema [vatzeket be-moach] [swelling of the brain] which can be fatal.

These patients are normally then treated with steroids [dexamethasone] which can be life saving but everybody knows the problems /side effects of steroids. Boswellia  [an herb] can be very helpful in addition to the steroids and possibly reduce the amount of steroids’ and therefore also the side effects.

An investigation of the effect of aqueous extract of Scoparia dulcis on the occurrence of oxidativestress  in the brain of rats during diabetes lead to the following conclusion: findings suggest a possible antiperoxidative role for this plant extract.
Hence, in addition to antidiabetic effect, Scoparia dulcis possess antioxidant potential that may be used for therapeutic purposes.
