During the temple period, animal sacrifices were brought (cattle, sheep, pigeons, doves). Some were brought voluntarily, others were obligatory (e.g. on Passover).
The Torah specifically permits meat via kosher slaughter.

You are totally right!. For sure meat is totally allowed but has become a reasjut since the churbam and is not anymore a mitzawas in the strict senseis talking from a general point of health and nobody can claim today that meat is a very health food and there areMANY problems with wheat [still a staple food in most countries]
