People who have been living in the tropics for a longer time-even if many, many years ago- and who have to take high doses of steroids for a longer time or immune-suppressive drugs or have to undergo a transplant [hashtala] should be absolutely checked for Strongyloides worms as these can start behaving very malignant if the patient is infected with them and not treated against Strongyloides before the above-mentioned treatments/procedures and may then even cause death. Addition: olim for Ethiopia may be in special danger if they get immune-suppressive drugs and are not checked/treated if necessary for Strongyloides . Maybe that our soldiers also got infected in Gaza with Strongyloides but I am not sure about this and not sure if they were examined for this parasite, which I suspect will be prevalent in Gaza.I found the following link about Gaza
Hello Doctor,
My daughter (11, down syndrome) is getting Tipul Biology (Actemra) for daleket prakim (JIA). She also got many years steroids. Should she be checked for this parasite? How is it checked?
