Hypericum—English common name: St.John’s wort
Caution: Hypericum should be taken for long periods of time only in the winter months; its use should be stopped one month before sun exposure is likely to occur. Prolonged use can cause photosensitivity.[Ellen Hopman]
Hypericum is a very affective herb for many conditions. In our age it has been replacing more and more “anti-depressive” drugs with good results
There is one problem: hypericum is safe but combinations with some prescription drugs like stanines etc can be a problem.
Many drugs are broken down in the liver and hypericum can slow down or speed up this process
In case it slows down this process in the liver then certain [prescription] drugs can reach very high dangerous blood levels. So if you are taking prescription drugs, and you want to add hypericum then discuss this with a professional.
