Over the years I have sent you an “endless” amount of articles about the importance of vitamin D [and the sun]
I can state now with certainty that every mother should ask for a vitamin D test in pregnancy if it was not done before [ and not only in pregnancy, but the more so during this period ]
I sent you in the past a whole story about the desirable values [arachim be-dam]
Ask your doctor to do the following test [you don’t have to fast for it]:
25 [OH] D.
It is extremely important for the foetus [ fetus ] [ baby to be born]. [ Maternal vitamin D status during pregnancy and childhood bone mass at age 9 years: a longitudinal study. The Lancet 2006; 367:36-43 ]
Furthermore, there is hardly any serious disease where vitamin D seems not to be not involved.
One of the most remarkable connections lately discovered , is the connection between low vitamin D levels and pancreas carcinoma!!
I would suggest the ministry of health to give a bonus of a few hundred shekalim to anybody who has his vitamin D level examined [this being done for free all over the country]
I suppose that within a year or two the “savings” in health will be tens of millions of shekalim [if not hundred of millions].
The same could have been true if folic acid was advised some 20 years ago already and not just in the last few years and the same is true for vitamin B12 which is also still treated as a step- child.
All of you could help to do a lot of good medically if you would spread this message as far as possible [ministry of health, who seems to be over-busy with flu shots………] , Knesset members, doctors, nurses etc. [ you know by now that I have some missionary tendencies……. ]
If you wish you can have your D level checked in kupat cholim meuhedet and if you tell them that you are referred by me you will pay 200 shekel instaed of the full price.[also outside of Jerusalem if they call the laboratory in Jerusalem]
I wish to declare that I have no personal benefit from this arrangement with this kupa.
There are the only one who do the test within 2 weeks [instead of 6 or more]
be hatzlacha, good luck.
